Raising money by reading!

Roll up! Roll up! I’m reading this Friday (16th) at the Ocean Rooms in Brighton, part of a huge, glitzy, charity gig celebrating the release of Ultimate Decadence. This is the second anthology from Burlesque Against Breast Cancer, an organisation raising funds for Macmillan Cancer Support. If you’re local, please come along and buy me a large gin! If you’re not local, please wish me luck!

I’ll be reading from The Lion Tamer’s Scars, my story from Ultimate Burlesque, the first BABC anthology, released last year.

burlesqueDecadenceTruly, these are two super-sexy, star-studded anthologies featuring filthy fiction from (amongst others) Alison Tyler, Jeremy Edwards, Nikki Magennis, Donna George Storey, Portia Da Costa, Maxim Jakubowski, Justine Elyot, Suzanne Portnoy, Rachel Kramer Bussel … oh, and loads more fabulousness! Help! Who did I miss?

And, super news, because I was not so delighted by a burlesque line-up featuring only female performers, we’ve pushed the boat out and managed to get TWO sexy guys on the bill! TWO! They are British Heart (who is doing a PhD in Boylesque) and Count Adriano Fettucini, a unicycling stripper. No, seriously! They are both true, and they both excite me greatly!

If you’re on Facebook, more here.

Hope you can make it – in flesh or in spirit! My voice, according to Alison Tyler, everyone’s favourite spankaholic, is divine – ‘like marmalade and honeysuckle with a dash of Jack Daniels’. I think maybe you have to be American to hear it that way but hey, you could try!

PS Photo of me reading is by Sam Collins of Tight Lip, taken at the last BABC gig held at Brighton’s Komedia. Thanks Sam!

  2. Attending a KL reading someday is on my lifetime-goal list! (I took out “learning to ride a unicycle” to make room–just as well, since it sounds like the latter skill is in good hands.)

  3. Thanks Danielle! I’m hoping that means I get to shag Daniel Craig *and* James Spader.

Jeremy, maybe one day we’ll be reading on the same bill together. That would be fun!

  7. Thanks everyone! It went well – though there was a terrible (truly!) moment after I’d done my nervous pre-reading political/chatty bit about how we need more sexy men doing burlesque – hurrah, applause (phew) etc … then I opened the book to read and realised I could not see a fucking thing! Stage was too dark. The pages were violet with some purple marks on them. So there was lots of awkwardness and rearranging of microphone and of me (me! poor me! standing on stage going ‘Um, I can’t actually see, I don’t know what to do here’) – and I ended up reading in front of a huge pink neon sign saying SEX.

So it all worked out OK. And we raised good money for Macmillan. And I had fun, and lots of chat with nice people. And the male performers were seriously special. Hopefully there’ll be photos at some point – and we plan to do a piece about boylesque over on ECW. So you have not heard the last about this night yet!

  8. Well, they say the difference between erotica and pornography is in the lighting. I guess if you bring erotica but tell them it’s porn, you get the wrong setting.
    ; )

But seriously, huge congrats on all of it! And we definitely need a picture of you in front of the SEX sign.

  10. Jeremy, maybe next time I’ll be reading Razzle by candlelight (tho’ I must make it very clear that was a joke and I have never ever been in Razzle).

Caz – five hours is a bit of a hike, yes! But thanks for the support.
